(English version below)
And repeat.
Ciao Amica, ti voglio bene.

April 11th, 2023 – Centro Velico Caprera (aka CVC) is a sailing school. In 2013 I took my first course and fell in love with it. A small island in the north of Sardinia, in a natural park near the Mouths of Bonifacio. Breakfast at 7 a.m. and from there your day of wind, sun, good company, scuffles (with accompanying insults to the crew) and drift glides, anchorages and boat rides around the Maddalena archipelago in a cabin cruiser, of sunset aperitifs in Terrazza “Martini” with a can of Ichnusa and a packet of Guttiau, and of after-dinner singing at the top of your lungs with friends accompanied by the sound of the guitar, drinking a nice myrtle to oil your vocal cords. And repeat.
This year is the first time I’m going to Easter to do “Pasquavela,” a different course from the others but just as good: less lessons (daje) more relaxation (yeeee), more games (double yeee), more cold (fuck).
My friends told me that this Easter has graced us with cold weather. Ah, well. Then maybe I’ll think about whether to come back next year. Scuffing in the April sea is not like bathing in the Maldives, if you are lucky a penguin will give you a hand to retract the boat quickly and with its fin will greet you wishing you well in staying wet in the breeze that will accompany you for the rest of the afternoon. The other tremendous thing is the dressing: three thousand layers of wetsuit to put on with enormous ease before entering the water with the boats, and then putting them back on wet the next time because you can be sure they will never dry out: a sublime pleasure. You will feel half invincible already by the end of this passage while your other half will wonder who the hell made you do it.
The cold at night, on the other hand, I did not suffer it, thanks in part to the famous stable effect and the always-on small heater and several layers of wool under the sleeping bag. Thanks to Stable Effect and Small Heater for these warm nights without central heating. Another upgrade was the dormitory walls, because the other alternative could have been thatched tukuls and there even Small Heater would not have been enough. So thanks also to CVC Secretariat for the Grace.
I had never been to Caprera in the spring. A riot of different flowers and colors with the unmistakable scent of myrtle there to tell you “welcome home”. A sight to bring a smile to your face with every walk to the Scalo, where the boats stay.
The first time I played PallaVela: soccer between the boats. Two goals each formed by two buoys, two teams, one free buoy as the ball, purpose of the game throw the buoy into the opponent’s goal, if your boat has the ball it cannot do maneuvers such as tacking bow or stern but can only tack or lean otherwise it has to pass it to a boat of its team. It is best to do this with little wind so as not to smash boats. In the eagerness to win you will surely get unseated or unseat other boats. I would also add that our referees were sellouts. In short, nothing different from the original Football.
Other indelible memories I will take home from these days, besides the always breathtaking landscapes that this place gives you that I will never tire of looking at, even after 10 years since I first landed on the island, are 4:
-literally indelible, the bruises I am taking home, without knowing of course how I got them, which I will look back on in the coming days with a smile and a lot of saudade.
– my gliding partner Cami (here’s the part where I’m being cool but in truth we only did one due to little wind and anyway it came out decent except for the bowwoman (me) who thought she was the unicorn from the Squatty Potty commercial, if you don’t know what I’m talking about look it up on YouTube, I’m giving you a gift of Trash, you’ll thank me).
-my friend Valtur (aka Gianlu) as bowman. An essential contribution in his favorite role. We will remember these days with our hearts full of joy. Valtur showed us how crew cooperation leads to optimal boat handling, a metaphor for life.
-Battisti’s Canzone del Sole in Reggae version, because let’s face it no Caprera is Caprera without Canzone del Sole sung under the strumming of the guitar but after the 3000th time you listen to it it has already scassat’ o’ cazz’ (sorry this is not translatable).
Ciao Caprera, in any of your forms you always give me strong emotions, which I see again in the sunburnt faces of my companions of scuffles and glides, in their smiles even more evident because of the contrast in color and because they are bigger, as is our heart when we say goodbye to you each time with the wistfulness of returning soon to you. Bye Friend, I love you.
